A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Why Psalms 121?
What mercy does this passage of scripture have in it! Proverbs 23:29 says " Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?" In what need are you of our savior Jesus Christ? We as man alone aren't strong enough, witty enough, knowledgeable enough, wise enough, humble enough, or discerning enough. What great limitation do our flesh hold. Those welling with pride, operating willfully are not only insecure but lacking great humility and understanding (Proverbs 28:26).
The devil prowls seeking who'm he may devour. How can he keep you regrettable, sorrowful, disconsolate, dejected and vanquished? Oh woe to populace whose sins have grabbed them by the neck and feet. Weary covers those that are eerie of counsel (Proverbs 29:1). Who is freed from sin nature alone? No not one (Romans 3:23). We need deliverance from fear, pain, anxiety, loss, immorality and so much more. We must not rely on any worldly thing to be our pasture. This is not just doctrine, this is a song of worship that we devout unto the Lord out of our neediness. My restless and cumbersome life, who must I turn to? Where does my help come from?
Where Does My Help Come From?
As the shirt reads... "My help comes from the Lord." Those who have proclaimed Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior have the opportunity to find rest in this song as David had. The Faith abounding calls us to work. Our Faith activated demands subjectiveness in Christ, we must gain this view of total reassurance marked by Christ's strength alone. In our lowly state we find strength in him. His power and goodness, his providence and grace; we must expect these things to come from the one who loves us. "I will consult with Christ alone, I will receive those desires in his perfect timing and none other. If he remains quiet in the current season, what good is it to look to man for it? It is not." We must embrace his word and prayer, from thence comes our help!
The Lord himself articulated and illustrated the heavens and the earth to perfection. Oh how great our troubles in this life, oh how much more power does the creator have to bring repose. May we solace in this understanding as believers, and to those Christ calls to himself in the waking moments may you find life afresh proclaiming his holiness! We must see that all of our help be laid up in God. Romans 4:20-21 "20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform." Let us shew this great Faith in God.
For Those That Sing This Great Song
"It is the spiritual life, especially, that God will take under his protection:He shall preserve thy soul. All souls are his; and the soul is the man, and therefore he will with a peculiar care preserve them, that they be not defiled by sin and disturbed by affliction. He will keep them by keeping us in the possession of them; and he will preserve them from perishing eternally. 10. He will keep us in all our ways:"He shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in.Thou shalt be under his protection in all thy journeys and voyages, outward-bound or homeward-bound, as he kept Israel in the wilderness, in their removes and rests. He will prosper thee in all thy affairs at home and abroad, in the beginning and in the conclusion of them. He will keep thee in life and death, thy going out and going on while thou livest and thy coming in when thou diest, going out to thy labour in the morning of thy days and coming home to thy rest when the evening of old age calls thee in,’’ Psalm 104:23. He will continue his care over us from this time forth and even for evermore. It is a protection for life, never out of date. "He will be thy guide even unto death, and will then hide thee in the grave, hide thee in heaven. He will preserve thee in his heavenly kingdom.’’ God will protect his church and his saints always,even to the end of the world. The Spirit, who is their preserver and comforter, shall abide with them for ever." - Matthew Henry
